Taking The Plunge

Posted by on 7 February 2008

I stumbled upon JPG Magazine‘s site today and, on an impulse, signed up and uploaded a pic that I thought would fit their “Split-Second” theme to a T. Fellow photographers would vote on it and if it gets selected to be printed in the next issue, I stand the chance to win $100 cash and a year’s subscription to the magazine.

Even though the timing of my shot was excellent, the whole pic is not in focus and the composition is ho-hum, so I don’t really expect to win. JPG Mag’s FAQ made it very clear that voting would be “about the quality of the photo as well as how well it fits the theme.”

But I’m taking the plunge anyway (pun fully intended). As Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky once said “You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.” Maybe I won’t hit the target this time but I must be bold enough to at least take a shot at it. How appropriate for JPG Mag to call themselves “The Magazine of Brave New Photography”!

Wish me luck…or better still, sign up and vote for me! ;)

Voting ends 15th of February, 2008.
